Ralph Clayton Hoover, 87, of 203 Avenue Two, Attica, passed away at his home Friday, Aug. 29, 1975, at 11:55 a.m., having been in failing health for some time, but death was very sudden and unexpected. He was born at Lee, Indiana, July 22, 1888, the son of Rev. U. G. and Florence Wood Hoover. He was married at Attica, Indiana, to Vera Iris Baker on Jan. 1, 1928, and they spent their entire married life in this city. After receiving his education at Monon, Ind., he had been employed in the oil fields in Illinois. In 1912, the H & H factory was established in Attica by Rev. U. G. Hoover and son Ralph. Here the H & H (Hoover & Hoover) Balm was made. The business flourished and the salve was sold to druggists and wholesalers throughout the United States and Canada. When Mr. Hoover retired from H and H in 1965, he became bookkeeper at the Vogue Clothing Store in Attica until the store was sold to its present owners. He had also worked as the mill manager at Harrison Steel Castings Co. in Attica for several years. Mr. Hoover was a veteran of World War I, serving in the army. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Attica. He is survived by his wife, Vera I. Hoover, and two nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. U. G. and Florence Hoover, two brothers, Emory and Paul, and his sister, Mrs. Elmer (Lois) Roberts. Friends were received at the Dale Maus Funeral Home in Attica Sunday evening, and funeral services were held there Monday afternoon with Rev. Nead officiating. Mrs. Howard Crawford played favorite selections on the organ which included Faith of Our Fathers and Abide With Me, and she also accompanied Mrs. Dean Mickle who sang Rock of Ages. Those who served as pallbearers were Everett White, Dean Mickle, Alfred Bell, Robert Hanthorne, James Skinner, Harold Wones and Richard Eimpkins. Interment followed in Riverside cemetery with Ronnie Fisher sounding taps at the cemetery. - kbz

Attica – Ralph Clayton Hoover, 87 once the operator of a factory here that made ointment died of a heart attack at his home, 203 Avenue Two at 11:55 a.m. Friday. His death was unexpected.  In 1912, Mr. Hoover and his father, the Rev. UG Hoover launched the H&H Co which for many years sold H&H Balm to drug stores and wholesalers throughout the US and Canada. A graduate of Monon HS Mr. Hoover later worked as manager of the mill at Harrison Steel Casting Co and was bookkeeper for the Vogue Store here. In 1928 at Attica he married Very Iris Baker who survives.  He was an Army Veteran of World War I and was associated with the Free Methodist Church of Attica.  – kbz

“Funeral Notice” – Hoover. Ralph C – Friends may call at Dale Maus Funeral Home, Attica from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Service there at 2 p.m. Monday the Rev. Melvin Nead officiating.  Interment in Riverside Cemetery.  Surviving are two nieces and two nephews.  Preceding in death were the parents, Mr. and Mrs. UG Hoover, two brothers, Emory and Paul and a sister, Mrs. Elmer (Lois) Roberts. - kbz
